The Chevy Traverse RS: Exterior Design: Bold with a Touch of Muscle

From the moment I laid eyes on the 2024 Chevy Traverse RS, it made one thing clear: this isn’t just another family SUV—it’s an SUV with attitude. Chevy has gone all out, transforming the Traverse into a slick, robust ride that’s clearly designed to catch attention and, perhaps,

a few double takes in the parking lot.

The RS trim boasts a deep, almost scarlet-red body color, contrasted with glossy black exterior trim. The color combo feels dramatic, like it’s ready to go toe-to-toe with some high-end SUVs that cost a chunk more. Then, there are those sport-performance tires wrapped around snowflake-style wheels. It’s a bold look, and it’s got a bit of that “badass” factor going on—because who doesn’t love an SUV that looks like it could hit the gym?

But the grille takes center stage. It’s wide and aggressive, with Chevy’s classic logo smack in the middle and RS badging on the side, a detail that lets everyone know this isn’t your average Traverse. Black gloss trim and a lower spoiler add a “racer” flair, with sleek, elongated headlights on either side, giving it that “don’t mess with me” look. From the side, the Traverse’s long silhouette and roof spoiler add an elegance that’s rare for a three-row SUV. And around back, it’s all performance vibes: black gloss rear bumper, quad exhaust tips, and a rear spoiler that screams sporty, even if you’re just rolling up to school drop-off.

Interior: Sport Meets Comfort

Stepping inside, Chevy has decked the Traverse RS in sporty luxury. The steering wheel alone is a statement piece, wrapped in black gloss and red stitching, with an RS badge that whispers (or shouts, depending on your taste) “race car.” Above, there’s a small functional light, because, apparently, even the steering wheel needs a spotlight in this SUV.

Behind the wheel, the digital gauge and entertainment screen stretch across the dash like a mini home theater, nearly two feet wide. It’s an inviting, high-tech setup, especially if you consider binge-watching on the go (parked, of course). The center stack is lined with chrome and glossy black, seamlessly integrating climate control and storage. Even the cup holders have a bit of extra flair, surrounded by chrome and black gloss.

In the second row, you’ll find two captain’s chairs—smaller but still roomy, with plenty of headspace and access to the panoramic sunroof. And just like the front seats, these are well-equipped with cup holders, climate controls, and charging ports. The third row offers enough space to fit three, so no more “who’s sitting where” drama. Plus, the seats fold flat, giving you some seriously impressive cargo space, whether it’s for beach gear, groceries, or a quick Costco haul. I tested it myself and was thoroughly impressed by the versatility.

Performance: A Mix of Brawn and Brains

Under the hood, Chevy’s dropped in a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, pushing out 328 horsepower. It’s not a muscle car, but it definitely packs some punch. The paddle shifters were a surprise—who expects that in a three-row SUV? Once I got the hang of them, I found they added a nice sporty edge to the drive. It’s heavier than your typical SUV, so don’t expect the agility of a smaller performance car. But cruising down Biscayne Boulevard or coasting on I-95, the Traverse felt solid, sturdy, and refined.

This isn’t a car you take on a track, but it’s ideal for a smooth, controlled ride, and the five drive modes (including trailer towing and Sport) give you options if you’re feeling a bit adventurous. Sport mode, of course, adds a bit of fun, but let's be real—this is still a Traverse. It’s got power, but it’s meant for comfortable, family-friendly cruising, not burning rubber.

Tech and Safety: Built for Modern Convenience

The 2024 Traverse RS has Chevy’s upgraded infotainment system with hands-free driving capabilities that are genuinely impressive for this price point. It feels more intuitive than expected, and active sound deadening keeps the cabin refreshingly quiet, even at highway speeds. The driver assistance features are solid, too, making it a safe bet for families or anyone who’s used to dodging rogue Miami traffic.

Verdict: Ready for Adventure, Family in Tow

So, here’s the bottom line: The 2024 Chevy Traverse RS is for the family that wants a little bit of everything—style, space, comfort, and a dash of sportiness. It’s not a show-stopper, but it’s a solid SUV with enough swagger to make the competition look twice. If you already have the 2023 model, you may not need the “refresh,” but if you’re in the market for a new family hauler, the Traverse RS is worth a look. Plus, with a price tag that won’t make you wince, it feels like a smart, practical choice.

It’s not a Corvette, sure. But hey, it’s a Traverse RS—a big, bold SUV that’s about as close as you can get to a muscle car while still comfortably fitting the kids and a cooler.
