THE FRONT IS UNIQUE AND MEMORABLE
Overview – The innovative Italian wagon is unique in nearly every way. The exterior design is bold, futuristic while also having a vibe that could be called futuristic and urbane. Can this innovative wagon with big windows, snub nose front and the DNA of a iconic brand get traction in the USA by appealing to curious buyers?
PERFORMANCE – From a performance standpoint we’re talking about a 1.4 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder producing about 160 horsepower and 185 lb ft of torque. The turbo definitely delivers the acceleration and pep that gets you onto and off the highway, on ramps and getting around hazards with confidence.
The front-wheel drive six-speed automatic transmission has a positive impact on the drive performance as well. The estimated gas mileage is around 25 mpg; 22 in the city and 30 in the highway. I found the 500L to be a utilitarian, practical vehicle to drive. The handling AND drive quality was much better than expected, well balanced, comfortable on the highway.
INSIDE – The dominant feature inside the cabin is the retro, throwback driver instrument panel and the dash. Big bold circles, confident splashy color combinations and easy to operate gadgets. The sport bucket seats add to the attractiveness of the 500L and there’s lots of room for a tall guy like me.
STYLE & DESIGN – The 500L style and design featured the traditional Fiat grill and a quirky yet fashionable design features that make it stand out in a crowd. The snub-nosed front and the extra wide windshield with the wraparound windows give it a unique stature in a packed segment. Look at the lower front bumper. You’ll notice the dividing point right there in the middle where the grille is situated underneath. That’s unique.
OPTIONS – There are three options. The lounge trim, coming in at $25,140 is more chromed out color coordinated design cues just are a lot more emphasized. All three are functional and reliable options in a very competitive class with plenty of other options. Fiat has done a great job getting away from the pack with something different. If consumers connect with those differences, it may be a hit for growing families, singles and business operations with fleets.
